Garip Zeycan Yildirim Fen Lisesi - Samsun (Turkey)

Our  school is situated in the suburbs of Samsun, a city on the coast of the Black Sea, but it's quite easy to transport from the city center. Almost half of our students are boarding students from the nearby towns and cities and they are welcome to stay at the school's dormitory which is the next building in the school yard. These students are eligible for free school meals. Most of the rest of the students also benefit from that.
We can  provide the lunch to our students  supplied at the dormitory with a very low cost. Staying at the dormitory with peers from different parts of the country contributes to their building close relationships, mutual respect and tolerance.  
We focus our educational training on the acquisition of skills and knowledge necessary to pass the examinations of high school and university entry as well as to be a self sufficient citizen after school. We educate children from all social strata and take great effort to integrate everybody and give each one a feeling of belonging.
Samsun Garip Zeycan Yildirim Fen Lisesi is a school which has been very active and experienced in promoting national projects to boost our students' abilities to solve problems, make right decisions, contribute to humanity.
 Our students have taken place in Tubitak projects competitions. Two years ago they took part in Inspo and became the third winner in the world in the field of environment.  
Two years ago they won the Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship competition organized by TED. Our students are willing to take part in further international partnerships, which will be a great motivation for students to have an opportunity to get to know new countries and cultures using their skills in foreign languages.  
Both English are German are taught in our school. Our students are mostly interested in the field of Medicine. They are hardworking ones who are aware of the importance of English to keep up with the latest improvements. Beside their achievements in school subjects our students need to express themselves more in the social arena. So we believe taking part in this project will also contribute to their social competence. The committed school staff takes part in various successful organisations.
 Our qualities will help us to organize and secure a successful and sustainable Erasmus+ project.
Samsun Garip Zeycan Yildirim Fen Lisesi is a school with qualified, experienced and highly enthusiastic teachers and eager, active and ambitious students who can contribute to carry out the activities which will be held throughout the project.
The participation of our school in a project with international partners is quite useful for both teachers and students as it will help sharing of ideas, concepts and personal development in terms of how to have a better future caring and working for our world. We intend to get acquainted with other countries and cultures to understand others and to be understood. We have always put an emphasis on teaching students how to tolarate, accept and respect others, no matter what their social, financial or ethnical background is. Moreover, apart from the education inside the school, we take our students outside to experience real life. Students take part in visits to nursing homes for children and elderly, to learn about the lives, problems and needs of the people there and this way their social competences improve, their positive behaviour is reinforced. Students need to be equipped with possible methods to exceed their personal horizon and accordingly to adapt those new insights to their own lives. Thus, all groups of people within a society will feel valued and important.
Our students are academically successful, but they tend to complain about the lack of social activities provided at school. Our boarding students have to take responsibility of their lives at an early age. Heavy course load combined with being away from their families sometimes cause negative effects in their emotional life. We have to include everyone in a way that everybody will be able to show an ability to improve his/her self-esteem, self-confidence to feel acceptance in social life. We know from our experiences that anyone who join and perform something to peers become different from earlier. A single event may change a student if we provide facilities. Having been  a part of this project has led our pupils to selffulfilment, greater understanding and responsiveness to social, linguistic and cultural diversity, more active participation in society and more positive attitude towards values.
Our students don't have IT lessons related to developing mobile apps, but they use their mobile devices quite a lot. As such, we believe that we can combine utility and pleasure by teaching them to develop simple mobile apps, knowledge which they can use both during highschool and after graduation.
The teachers who have been involved in the project  have specific responsibilities according to their area of expertise: foreign language teachers, teachers of IT and ICT, geography teacher, accountant, contact person, as well as other teachers who will contribute to the organisation of the project events - selection of students, organisation of transnational activities, dissemination and evaluation of project results.  
As such, this project has meant teachers and staff have got increased opportunities for professional development and increased motivation and satisfaction in their daily work.
We are very satisfied with the development of all the mobilities because through them our students have learnt a lot of interesting things and they have shared unforgettable moments with students from the other nationalities.
